| Abstract | Tato bakalářská práce mapuje ekonomické a legislativní podmínky dramatiků ve viktoriánském Londýně, tedy mezi lety 1837 a 1901. Práce se zaměřuje na vývoj a změny ve výši a formě odměňování dramatiků v divadlech West Endu i East Endu a postupný rozvoj zejména autorskoprávní ochrany ve Velké Británii. Práce dále popisuje fungování a rozsah cenzury, stejně jako možnost dramatiků své hry knižně publikovat. Práce je strukturovaná do tří částí, z nichž první se zabývá především ekonomickými otázkami, druhá právní problematikou s důrazem na copyright a cenzuru a třetí je případovou studií dramatika Oscara Wilda, na jehož příkladu ukazuji principy popsané v prvních dvou částech a postupné změny ve společenském statutu této profese. Cílem této práce je poskytnout čtenáři stručný náhled do fungování divadelní scény viktoriánského Londýna z pohledu dramatika. |
| Translation of abstract | This bachelor's thesis offers an overview of the economic and legal conditions of playwrights in Victorian London - that is from 1837 to 1901. The thesis focuses on the changes and development of the form and height of authorial remuneration in both West End and East End theatres and the gradual progress of esp. copyright legislation in the United Kingdom. The thesis also describes the nature and workings of censorship as well as the possibility of publishing plays. The thesis is structured into three chapters. The first chapter analyses chiefly the economic notions of the period, the second deals with the legal aspects of the profession with focus on copyright and censorship and the third consists of a case study of playwright Oscar Wilde. I use his example to demonstrate the principles described in the previous two chapters as well as show the gradual development of the status of his profession. The aim of this work is to offer a brief comprehensive overview of the Victorian London theatre scene from the point of view of the playwright. |
