| Abstract | Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá krátkou novelou Henryho Jamese The Turn of the Screw (Utažení šroubu), publikovanou roku 1898 a jejích následných celovečerních adaptací, konkrétně The Innocents (Neviňátka) z roku 1961 režírované Jackem Claytonem a The Turning z roku 2020 režírované Floriou Sigismondi. Třebaže se jedná o adaptace stejné novely, jsou mezi nimi značné rozdíly. Cílem práce je analýza předlohy a samotných snímků, popsat využité adaptační klíče v souvislosti s místem a časem vzniku adaptací, a uvést, do jaké míry se filmům podařilo zachovat nespolehlivého vypravěče, který je pro mnohoznačné vyznění novely naprosto klíčový. |
| Translation of abstract | This bachelor thesis concerns feature film adaptations of Henry James’s short horror novella The Turn of the Screw, published in 1898. The film adaptations in question are The Innocents (1961) directed by Jack Clayton and The Turning (2020) directed by Floria Sigismondi. Although both have the same source material, both features are very different. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the novel and the adaptations themselves, describe the adaptation techniques used and cite the degree to which the adaptations managed to retain the unreliable narrator who is essential to the novel’s ambiguity. |
