| Abstract | Tato práce zkoumá kontroverzní dílo francouzské umělkyně Orlan s ohledem na společenský a historický kontext. Její tvorba je silně ovlivněna francouzskými feministickými teoriemi, filozofií a psychoanalýzou. Orlan se nejvíce proslavila svými performance během kterých si nechala přeoperovat obličej podle historických šablon krásy. Tento umělecký počin má sebedestruktivní charakter, jenž je čitelný u mnoha body artových umělkyň. Ve svém textu stručně představuji vývoj autorčiny tvorby, jenž ukazuje její postupné vymezování a utváření výrazu, který vedl až k plastickým operacím nazvaných Reinkarnace sv. Orlan. Tyto performance mi slouží jako názorný příklad k vysvětlení masochismu v ženském umění. Cílem práce je osvětlení principů, podle nichž destruktivní pud funguje z pohledu psychoanalýzy a pohlédnout na bolest nejen jako na formu výrazového uměleckého prostředku, nýbrž se zamyslet nad její hlubokou podstatou a pohnutkami, jež jsou s ní spojené. |
| Translation of abstract | This thesis examines the controversial work of French artist Orlan with regard to social and historical context. Her creative output is heavily influenced by French feminist theories, philosophy, and psychoanalysis. Orlan is best known for her performances, during which she underwent facial plastic surgery according to historical patterns of beauty. This artistic act has a self-destructive character, which can be noted in case of many body art artists. In my paper, I briefly present the evolution of Orlan's work, focusing on the gradual formation and defining of her artistic expression, which in the end led to a series of plastic surgeries called Reincarnation St. Orlan. I use these performances as an illustration to explain masochism in women's art. The paper's goal is to throw light at the working principles of the destructive instinct, according to psychoanalysis. Furthermore, the paper looks at pain not merely as a form of artistic expression, but tries to consider its profound nature and motives that are associated with it. |
