| Abstract | Předkládaná bakalářská práce pojednává o fenoménu „cringe“. Tento anglický pojem, který nemá v českém jazyce ekvivalent, popisuje pocit studu, který člověk zažívá během pozorování trapné situace, v níž se ocitla druhá osoba. Jde tedy o zprostředkovaný, přenesený pocit trapnosti za někoho jiného. Jelikož se jedná o doposud nepříliš probádané téma, věnuji se mu v obecné rovině a pokouším se v práci popsat celkový kontext tohoto fenoménu a jeho projevy a uplatnění v různých oborech. V textu se proto zevrubně věnuji jednak etymologickému vývoji pojmu „cringe“ a příbuzným konceptům v německém jazyce, dále pak obracím svou pozornost k historii fenoménu, popisuji okolnosti jeho vzestupu a rozšíření a naznačuji jeho souvislost s psychologií a filosofií. Důraz ve své práci kladu především na uplatnění „cringe“ v audiovizuální umělecké tvorbě. V této souvislosti se věnuji detailnějšímu rozboru subžánru televizní a filmové komedie „cringe comedy“ a na konkrétních příkladech ukazuji základní mechanismy tohoto žánru. Mimoto se snažím postihnout také vztah „cringe“ a moderních informačních technologií. V rámci tohoto výkladu dokládám za pomoci statistických údajů výrazný vzestup fenoménu „cringe“, který zaznamenal zhruba od počátku tisíciletí. |
| Translation of abstract | The following paper addresses the phenomenon of "cringe". This English term, which has no equivalent in the Czech language, describes a feeling of shame one experiences while being witness to another person caught in an awkward situation. It is a transferred or secondary feeling of shame felt for another person. Given the near absolute lack of academic attention and exploration invested into the topic, I provide a general overview as well as a wider context of the phenomenon, including its manifestations and uses in various fields. In the text itself, that means I begin by by an exhaustive explanation of the etymological development of the term cringe itself, as well as related terms in the German language. Next, I address the history of the phenomenon, describing the circumstances of its rise in popularity and spreading of its use, with allusions to its connections to psychology and philosophy. The emphasis throughout my paper, however, is on the application of cringe in audiovisual works. In this sense, I provide a detailed analysis of the cringe comedy subgenre of television and film comedy, pointing to specific instances in order to provide examples of the genre's basic mechanisms. Another important goal of this paper is to explore the relationship of cringe to modern information technologies. This exploration is supported by a statistically well-founded spreading of the cringe phenomenon since the beginning of the millennium. |
